Decades
This piece was originally conceived as a part of CG set for a commercial spot about hamburgers throughout recent American history. However, the potential also existed for the set to be the stage for a visual exploration in lighting, composition, and cinematography. So the assets were repurposed to try and achieve that goal.
The lighting was originally intended to evoke a sense of an old game show stage after hours, think Price Is Right Showcase after the lights have gone down. Although it did evolve, it should still capture that low-lighting feeling.
Color correction was performed in After Effects to try and achieve the look of an old photograph. The popular "Instagram" presets were a big inspiration.
Mental Ray was the primary renderer and Adobe products were used for texturing, compositing, and editing.

LA Light
Song by Cinematic Orchestra cinematicorchestra.com/
Shot with a 5D MK II and a 7D
Zeiss 35, 50 1.4, 85 1.2, Canon 15mm, 24mm, 24-105, 70-300mm,
MOCA Kessler Cineslider, revolution head, and various DIY contraptions I've built for zoom motor control.
I sought out to capture the electric radiance of Los Angeles at night.
It took me 6 months of on and off shooting to finish this project and I've learned a couple things along the way.
First off, LA might be the entertainment capital of the world, but it sure is difficult to shoot around downtown without having homeland security officers, police, or security take notice and harass you. Know your shooting rights!
Shooting time lapses is a labor of love and a study in patience.

Under the clouds
For more pleasure, if you don't have good speakers, use a Headphone!
These images and these sounds were recorded during a travel from "Toulouse" to "Paris", and from "Paris" to "Martinique". We see the North and the South of "Martinique", the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, during the rainy season in July, 2011.
This small video was thought before I arrive on the scene. The images were not priority but it's the sound which guided the shoot and the edition.
Sounds recorded with a zoom H4N (post sync).
Images shot with a tripod and a 7D.
