Sorry for the resting sarcasm face in my photos - I keep trying to fix that... So I started keto when after years of failed epilepsy medications I was ready to try something different. After consulting with my physician, doing a great deal of research via Johns Hopkins and the Charlie Foundation I decided to give it a go. When I began in April, I started with two days of fasting then jumped into my medical keto eating plan. The first month wasn't as difficult as I'd anticipated. I'm not a big sugar junkie anyway so purging that from my diet wasn't too difficult - it was the bread and chips that was a bit of a sacrifice. At any rate, since my main goal with keto was to get my seizures under control (for most people it's weight loss) so my motivation to measure my food and control my macros was pretty intact. The weight falling off and increase in energy was a pretty awesome side effect. I would typically have anywhere from 6-8 seizures a month, usually in clusters (2-3 at once). After month one, they tapered off into just auras (an aura is an "almost seizure", similar to the feeling that you're going to sneeze but don't), down to zero seizures or auras in June. My endurance for exercise has skyrocketed, and I love going for long distance hikes on a regular basis as well as weight lifting. This is by far the best thing I've done for myself, and I'm so very lucky to have a boyfriend who is not only supportive as hell but even eats keto along with me. As with anything, it's still too early to declare that keto has cured my seizures, but I'd say this is one hell of a promising start. Sorry for the selfies, Imgur. I fully expect the appropriate trolling. I AM PREPARED! | |||
