Christian Schaumann, whose family first brought the event to life and has organized it ever since, said the festival isn’t going away – they are merely taking a break.
“We have given 15 years of our heart and soul, sweat and tears to this festival and it will not be going away,†Schaumann said in a Facebook post. “We are simply taking a brief pause so that we may return with a better experience for all of our patrons and artists.â€
Schumann told the Aiken Standard that he and his family recently relocated to North Carolina and are putting the event on hold to spend more time together.
“We’re just going to enjoy our time together and appreciate it as a family,†Schaumann said. “But it (the festival) will be back in 2021 in some way, shape or form.â€
The Aiken Bluegrass Festival has grown exponentially in the years since its creation.
Schaumann told the Aiken Standard in May (when the festival was in full swing) that tickets in the RV campground at the Western Carolina State Fairgrounds were sold out just two hours after going on sale. Bluegrass musicians from all over the country, such as Billy Strings and Lindsey Lou, were part of last year’s lineup.
While people might miss the twangy music and tie-dye tapestries this coming year, Schaumann wants people to remain hopeful and look forward to when the event will return.
“Please know we will miss all of you and our special time at the Fairgrounds, but the love we shared there will last until we dance together once again,†Schaumann said in a Facebook post. “In the meantime, please continue to see local live music and support our artists when they come to your town.â€
