The reason for this price change as cited on thePlayStation Blogis the impact from the global market conditions. “This price adjustment will enable us to continue bringing high-quality games and value-added benefits to your PlayStation Plus subscription service,” the blog post adds. Therefore, anyone who subscribes to PS Plus after April 16 will have to pay the new increased amounts.
Interestingly, theSouth Korean PlayStation Blog(machine translated to English) states that current subscribers will not be affected by this pricing change unless they change their current plan. This suggests if existing users decide to stay on their current plan, they will not be subject to these price hikes. However, the PlayStation Blog directed towards Southeast Asian countries states “the price change will not take effect until your next billing date that occurs on or after June 24,” suggesting these users will be subject to the price hikes regardless.
For Australia, the price for PS Plus Essential has gone up by $1 AUD for the one month plan, $2 AUD for the two month plan, and $7 AUD for the 12 month plan. Similar price hikes have been implemented to the Extra and Deluxe subscriptions.
Currently, the US and Europe are safe from these price hikes, but uncertainty prevails with the ongoing tariff situation.
