For any Pokémon fan, dragons hold a special allure, and the Dragon-type cards in Pokémon TCG Pocket are no exception. Currently, the only available Dragon-type cards are part of the Dragonite evolutionary line, including Dratini, Dragonair, and Dragonite itself. Let’s explore how each card performs and contributes to a winning deck strategy, as well as a look at the elusive Illustration Rare Dragonite.
Starting with Dratini, this Basic Pokémon is ideal for setting up a strong Dragonite-focused deck. With 70 HP, Dratini can take a couple of hits from opponents' attacks, holding its ground better than many other Basic Pokémon. Dratini's sole attack, Ram, inflicts 40 damage but requires two Energies (one Water and one Electric), putting it on par with other strong Basic Pokémon. The lack of weaknesses for Dratini's line, unique to the Genetic Apex set, also provides a strategic advantage against potential type-based vulnerabilities.
When Dratini evolves into Dragonair, the stats improve significantly. Dragonair has 100 HP and boasts the attack Tail Smack, which deals an impressive 80 damage. Adding only one Colorless Energy to Dratini’s setup, this attack lets players keep their momentum, often allowing a one-two punch from Dratini and Dragonair to knock out opponents’ Pokémon. Both Dratini and Dragonair have only a single Colorless Energy retreat cost, a flexibility that pairs well with an X Speed Trainer card, allowing you to quickly cycle these Pokémon in and out of the Active position as needed.
The evolution reaches its peak with Dragonite, a formidable Dragon-type card with an attack strength that few Pokémon can match. Dragonite’s powerful Draco Meteor attack requires four Energies (one Water, one Electric, and two Colorless) but deals 200 total damage, spread randomly across up to four of your opponent’s Pokémon. With each targeted Pokémon taking 50 damage, Draco Meteor provides wide coverage and a high chance to weaken multiple threats on the opponent's side. Dragonite’s impressive 160 HP also ensures it stays in the game longer, and with strategic support, it can deal consistent damage.
A rare and visually stunning alternative to the regular Dragonite is the Illustration Rare Dragonite card. Created by well-known Pokémon artist Gemi, this variant showcases Dragonite soaring over the ocean under a meteor shower. While functionally identical to the standard Dragonite card, the Illustration Rare version has a very low drop rate, making it a prized addition to any deck. Free-to-play players may struggle to acquire this version, as crafting it requires 400 pack points, equivalent to 80 packs from the Genetic Apex set’s Mewtwo packs, where Dragonite and its line are exclusively available.
For players looking to enhance their deck with these rare Dragon-type cards, platforms like U4GM offer a practical solution for quick access to Pokémon TCG Pocket resources, allowing players to enjoy the game without extensive grinding. Securing a pokemon tcg pocket account from trusted sources can make it easier to assemble a powerful Dragon-type deck and dive right into the action.
