In a post on Weibo, Oppo’s Zhou Yibao shared a video previewing a pressure-sensitive camera shutter button, as Android Authority first spotted. The feature allows users to double-tap to open the camera and then press the button again to take a photo. You can then also swipe on the button to zoom in or out.

The Oppo Find series product manager revealed that the button can be double-tapped to activate the camera app. A single long press will take a photo, but more interestingly, a sideways swipe will zoom the camera.
The main reason for this button is sometimes the screen can't be tapped to take a photo. That's why the demo is about using the phone underwater, as it will be IP68-certified, but the executive pointed out it should be easy to use both in landscape and portrait mode.

When Apple announced its iPhone 16 series in September, it added a new feature to all four models: the Camera Control button. The button sits on the right edge of the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max and it allows you to open the camera, switch between the different lenses, change the depth of field, adjust the Photographic Style you want to shoot in, and take the picture itself.
Previous reports have suggested the Quick Launch camera button will have other features beyond the camera controls, though they weren't confirmed by Yibao. It's thought they could include a picture viewing mode and game mode, along with the camera mode. This would make the button quite different to Apple's current offering which only offers a camera mode.
If that all sounds familiar, it’s because it’s virtually identical to “Camera Control,” a feature Apple launched on the iPhone 16 series. There, users just press once to open the camera, but the swipes and ability to use the pressure-sensitive area as a shutter button work the same as Oppo’s implementation. While Oppo is coming to market after Apple, the company is not necessarily copying Camera Control because Apple released it, as the feature would have been in development for quite some time before Apple’s announcement.
The Find X8 series will feature Hasselblad-tuned optics and it will run on the new MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset. It will be revealed in China on 24 October.
Oppo also does highlight that this experience, swipes and all, works even if the phone is underwater, allowing the camera to be used if the touchscreen cannot.
