In addition to the iPhone 16 lineup and a slate of new watches and AirPods, Apple is expected to show more AI features, like the ability to understand what’s onscreen, along with features it introduced at WWDC in June, which include an upgraded Siri, image generation, AI rewrite, and call recording and transcription abilities.

iPhone 16 gets a new camera look
Like every Apple event this time of year, the main thing to expect is new iPhones. In this case, these will be the iPhones 16. According to leaks around the blogosphere (mostly thanks to Bloomberg’s Apple leaker supreme, Mark Gurman) the new iPhones are expected to be largely the same as the devices in the recent past. Expect a base model, along with the more expensive and feature-rich iPhones 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max.

All four iPhone 16 models are expected to have the Action Button, which was exclusive to the Pro line with the iPhone 15. Apple’s new iPhones may also have a new button dedicated to capturing photos and videos, but it’s unclear if that will be a Pro-exclusive feature or will be available on the regular iPhone 16 models as well.

Apple may also be showing off some revamps of its Apple Watch, including a cheaper version made out of plastic—or at least some material less expensive than the Apple Watch’s typical aluminum—that may primarily be aimed at kids.

Apple tested several designs for the standard iPhone 16 models, but ultimately decided on a vertically aligned camera system with a pill-shaped camera bump. Prior iPhones have used a square-shaped camera bump to accommodate the diagonal lenses, but Apple is able to slim down the camera bump with the new lens arrangement.
On the left side of the iPhone, Apple plans to replace the mute switch with the Action button, and the iPhone 16 models will adopt the same button that was introduced with the iPhone 15 Pro models. The volume buttons will be located below the Action button.
There have been mixed rumors about the color options for the iPhone 16 models. One rumor suggested seven colors, including blue, pink, yellow, green, black, white, and purple.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, though, believes the iPhone 16 will be available in black, green, pink, blue, and white, with no purple or yellow options.
