Different Rotational Directions for FPV Motors:
FPV motors commonly rotate in two directions: clockwise (CW) or counterclockwise (CCW), affecting propeller rotation, also known as "Props-out" or "Props-in." Most firmware configurations default to "Props-in."
"Props-out":
This configuration is beneficial for smaller drones, especially those under 3 inches, providing aerodynamic advantages, particularly during sharp turns. With "Props-out" rotation, the FPV camera faces fewer risks from debris during crashes as it propels debris away from the craft.
"Props-in":
"Props-in" rotation creates more turbulence during yaw rotation, mimicking a sudden 90° turn. Some whoop drones have addressed this issue by switching to reverse ("Props-out") rotation.
Altering FPV Motor Direction in Betaflight:
Start by removing propellers, then connect the LiPo battery and access the "Motors" tab in Betaflight. Use the "Wizard" and "Start/Spin Motors" options to adjust and verify motor rotation direction.
Changing FPV Motor Direction through Rewiring:
For a hardware solution, interchange any two of the three motor wires, requiring desoldering and soldering them back to the ESC.
Using BLHeliSuite for Motor Direction:
If soldering isn't preferred, BLHeliSuite software offers an alternative. Connect your quadcopter to your PC, access the ESC through BLHeliSuite, and switch the motor direction from "Normal" to "Reverse" or vice versa.
Conclusion:
Modifying FPV motor rotation is essential for optimizing drone performance. Hardware or software adjustments provide flexibility across different FPV drone builds, accommodating various ESCs, flight controllers, and software setups.
