Game designer Joe Shely explains during a recent roundtable discussion that reimagining sets in a way that is compatible with Diablo 4 properly wouldn't be possible before the game's launch in early next year. However, the team is thinking of adding them to the live-streaming service.
"As we've been building the game, we thought that we could develop sets in a new method that was different from what we've seen previously in Diablo 3. But, we needed some more time before we could get them with a style that would integrate well with the rest of Diablo 4, so you will not see any sets when you first start on the map," Shely explains. "We think that sets are amazing, and we'd like to do them right - therefore, we're looking in the future for our live-stream service."
"There's a legendary staff member in the demo which turns [the spell] fireball into triple fireball spells," former game director Luis Barriga told Polygon(opens in new tab) in the year 2019. "The one difference could be that you know, a game that is currently in play Diablo 3 gives you bonuses greater than a thousand. I believe we're designing the game in the moment to be a little bit less constrained in order to not get ourselves into that escalating power-curve."
If you're not aware the term, Set Items are generally strong items of equipment that provide more power when put together. They're "set" since they're always offering the same bonus features, and as such they are part of a set. They first appeared by Diablo 2, though it was 3 that they became the most dominant. It is yet to be determined how they'll impact their impact on the Diablo 4 meta should they arrive, though we have no doubt that their impact on the evolving fashion scene will be felt.
