A general sense of vitriol and mockery followed Diablo Immortal up until its recent launch. It's been the same since. However, it's no longer just the quick-witted reaction to disappointing announcements or the fact the game is available via mobile platforms. It's the result of Diablo Immortal's microtransactions which although quite costly, weren't generated out of air.
Diablo Immortal is doused in many in-game transactions- a proverbial wall of deals with exaggerated percentages that convince players how much they purchase in a row, they'll save. This is the norm in the mobile market for decades, regardless of how different the appearance may have appeared.

This is also apparent in the case of Lapis -the paid currency that is used in Final Fantasy Brave Exvius -and entices players with "bonus" currency reaching into the hundreds when buying packs that are worth upwards of $100.
"A usual tactic in mobile games or other games that uses microtransactions is to make it more complicated currency," an anonymous employee working in the mobile games industry recently told me. "Like when I pay $1, I'd get two types of currencies (gold and jewels, for instance).
