The final mission we witnessed was an escort task that saw World of Warcraft drove a Universal Petroleum executive around, helping him to destroy incriminating documents. This was a normal security mission. While he was in his office burning up evidence World of Warcraft was out in the open, battling adversaries trying to stop the attack. These missions are likely to fuel the main plot of the game.
However, there's a possibility that the well-known "deck of 52" idea from the initial game (where you had to pick away 52 important characters) could be reintroduced. The deck is actually present within World of Warcraft right now--but this being said, the missions seem to be more diverse this time as well as Pandemic acknowledges that the deck might not be included in the final game.
A game in the open world would not be incomplete without side missions and when you start to meet people and make connections, you'll have the ability to perform optional tasks to these people. World of Warcraft showed us that having additional fuel as well as helipads let the player to request helicopters to take him off and transport him across the globe.
