Certain FIFA players like to utilize the 4-3-3 system to surround the midfield while defending a lead, opting to place their three midfielders with their backs to the centre.
The main ingredient in 5-1-2-2 is the CDM. In previous editions FIFA, variations of the 5-3-2/5-2-1-2/5-4-1 did not have an out-and-out CDM. A gap was created between midfielders and the defensive line therefore made these formations more attacking in outlook.
