Significant changes that players always wished for are expected to be implemented to The game's Covenant system, including the much-disliked Conduit Energy system. Blizzard has decided to eliminate Conduit Energy completely, writing in a forum posting that the system did not work as the developers would have hoped.
"We should have taken note of community comments and decided to change direction in the past year," the post reads. "A majority of players largely avoid the system and are unaffected by it, and the few who wish to participate in multiple content forms competitively feel constrained by it. All in all, it amounts to an experience that is not pleasant. Conduit Energy isn't really making the game more enjoyable in any significant way which is why we're eliminating the system completely."
The players who attain an adequate Renown rank will also be able to change freely between Covenants. This change is significant in that Blizzard in the initial stages of Shadowlands made a huge deal of how significant an option a player's choice of Covenant would be, going into the extreme of punishing players who decided to later switch to a different Covenant. With patch 9.1.5. players will be able to change Covenants to their hearts in no way whatsoever, allowing for more playing around with different Covenant abilities without being shackled to a particular route.
