The game is played by less than 1.000 active players across EU and NA as a whole, and the PvP game is not very good at all and you face a major barrier to entry where it's impossible to play with anyone for a few weeks at the very least. Also, you'll have to consider that there are so only a few players, there's no game-based skill-based matchmaking available.

Sums it up pretty well. While you may have fun with the horrendous PvP, you are constantly competing with players that are not able to beat at all. I'd recommend Lost Ark, it just feels like a top-down Elyon but it's not as boring, gameplay- and performance-wise. In particular, the PvE at the endgame and PvP content is very professionally designed.

Top-down isn't for everyone, had to play till around 30 levels before I began to enjoy the game. I enjoyed the gameplay of Elyon however, I would not recommend it. You could grind hard for a couple of months to get to an extent where you're able to be competitive in PvP.

Alternately, you can instead, Lost Ark for a few hours to get access to PvP queues where stats and skill points are separate from PvE. Both games feel mechanically great and yet Lost Ark has 1000 fewer problems.

While I was playing, I played Lost Ark for 10 hours or so, and am still on the gigantic instructional island (not an actual island, but the continent that follows it) where you're able to go to "kill three spiders" or "talk to the cook" tasks for hours and hours, and I decided not to go for more than 10+ hours to see if it gets fun. Elyon on the other hand was a complete delight with its simple strategy of giving you 8 optional "kill 10-20 lizardmen" quests instantly and let you kill everything for more than six seconds at the same time.
